Who hasn’t heard of poker? This ever popular card game has traveled all across the globe, with contributions from various historical versions of card games, before the game reached the United States in the 1800’s.

With the monetary rewards included with playing a hand of poker, it is not a wonder why professional poker players around the world are now considered as self-made millionaires.

A popular and easy to understand variant of poker is Seven Card Stud Poker.

Before Seven Card Stud became known in the United States, soldiers during the Civil War played Five Card Stud.

As reported by sources, at the present time, Seven Card Stud serves as one of the favorite poker variants that are played in parties and at home. If you need a little help in playing this game, read this article.

You get a basic overview of the game mechanics, as well as tips to help you win.

In Seven Card Stud Poker, each player is dealt with three cards, two of which are face down, while one is facing up (up card) for all others at the table to see. The player with the highest up card is the first to start the betting round.

After this, the fourth street is dealt on the table, which is a face up card. Betting proceeds after this, then the fifth street is dealt. Another round of betting occurs, and is followed by dealing of the sixth street.

After the next round of betting, the final card is dealt face down. After this, final betting takes place before the showdown. Then the last face down card is revealed.

How will you know who the winner is at a hand of Seven Card Stud? Basically, any player with the best combination of five out of his three cards plus the four other street cards on the table wins.

Here is a general tip: one must be very familiar with the ranks of hands in poker, such that flush is better than straight, et cetera.

Now, a variation of Seven Card Stud Poker is Seven Card Stud High Low. The proceedings of game play are the same, as mentioned above. But the difference is that the winnings are split between two winners.

The first winner is the one with the best hand, and the second winner is the one with the lowest hand.
