Know all the hand values for the game of Poker. Don’t know what a Straight or a Flush is? Buy a book or print out a copy from a number of free sites on the internet and keep the list beside you when you play.
Know what to hold. Example: Let’s say that on your first Draw, you get a pair of Jacks. But what if one of the Jacks is a Jack of Diamonds and the other three cards in your five-card hand are a suit of 8, 9, and 10? Should you hold the pairs and toss the others, to try for a three or four of a kind? Or should you drop one of the Jacks and go for a Straight Flush? Answer: Go for the Straight Flush!
Study the payout ratios. Above the cards is a detailed list of Video Poker payout schemes. For example, a $4 bet on a Royal Flush pays out $1,000, but a $5 bet pays out $4,000, making it literally a no-brainer not to go for the extra dollar!
