Video Poker 101
As previously discussed (See Video Poker vs. Poker Table), Video Poker (a.k.a. “Draw Poker”) presents the poker player with different challenges and requires different strategies than the average traditional poker game.
For starters, there’s no one at the table except for you and the dealer. Moreover, unlike table poker, you have only one round and two draws to achieve “Jacks or Better” (at least two Jacks or any higher valued hand), in order to beat the dealer.
Other Video Poker features include:
- A First Draw “Hold.” After drawing your first hand, you have the option to either “Hold” all the cards (making it your final hand) or “Discard” as many as you wish.
- A “Double” or “Half-Double” Option. Upon winning a hand, you are given the option to re-gamble either all (“Double”) or half (“Half Double”) of your winnings on a 50/50 two-card game. After the “House Card” is automatically turned face-up, you will choose 1 of 4 cards that are face-down. If the card you choose is higher than the House Card, then you double or half-double your money. And the best part about it is, the Double/Half-Double Option can be used up to FIVE TIMES!
