Often referred to as “Double-Hand” Poker, Pai Gow Poker is a westernized form of the Chinese game Pai Gow, which literally means, “makes nine.”
Some quick facts about Pai Gow Poker…
- The game is played with a standard 52-card deck plus a single Joker.
- The Joker can be used either as an Ace or to complete a Straight, a Flush, or a Straight Flush. Apart from the Joker, the standard Poker hand values and rules apply.
- The game is played on a table set up for 6 players plus the dealer.
- All of the players are playing against the Banker, which can be the dealer or any one of the players.
- The object is to create two poker hands out of the seven cards that are in your hand. One hand will be a five-card hand, and the other will be a two-card hand.
Here’s how the game is played…
- If both the player’s “High Hand” (the five-card hand) and “Low Hand” (the two-card hand) beat the dealer’s hands, then the player receives “even money” on the bet (less the standard 5% House Commission).
- If the player loses both hands against the dealer’s hands, the dealer wins the player’s bets.
- If the player wins only one of his/her hands, then the round will be considered a “Tie” or “Push.”
