Basically speaking, WSOP satellites are poker tournaments where each player pays a smaller “buy-in” to get a chance to earn a seat at a larger poker tournament.

Despite of how many people will show up, they will still have to give away the 3 seats even if they would need a certain number of people to play to have a break even for the prize pool. These guaranteed seats are definitely a good opportunity on your buy-in and thus allow you to fight on a smaller battlefield.
There are basic satellite strategies that can be helpful in terms of giving a different approach to players. If you’re playing a typical type of multi-table event, then you will have to play aggressively on the game. But if you’ve been a commoner in tournaments, you will have an easier way to get through tight players. But with the modern type of tournament structure, blinds rise too quickly in rewarding overly patient players.
The keyword in all of this is survival. Just always keep in mind that playing these types of games / tournaments would mean that you keep your strategies very tightly with yourself.
